KNOT Completion Evidence

This is a compilation of the KNOT completion tasks that you have completed over the semester. It should help you to coalesce some ideas around your Learning Portfolio, but it is a separate task.

Students must complete at least 10 points worth of KNOTs over the semester, with a minimum of 2 points in each of the areas of Perspectives, Skills and Projects (Knowing, Being, Doing). Each point for a KNOT is typically 3-hours of in-person learning (for example, a workshop) on a defined topic, with a completion task.

This is simply the compilation of these tasks, your updated Course Pathway Plan and any other explanatory notes.

Milestones

(Optional) Course Plan Milestone Check-in

By Fri Week 6. The Course Plan Milestone Check-In is an opportunity to ask questions and get feedback about the completion tasks to date.

(Optional) KNOT Completion Evidence - Early Submission Deadline

By Fri Week 10. Submit a near-final or final submission for some brief feedback, or simply finish the task early. For LAWS students, this is the date to include the task as part of your Portfolio (max. 20%).

(Expected) KNOT Completion

By Fri Week 11. Last recommended day to complete KNOTs (ie collecting a minimum of 10 points, 12 points recommended)

(Required) KNOT Completion Evidence - “Last Call” Submission Deadline

By Mon Week 12. Last day to submit.

Release

Between Weeks 2-10. This task should take approximately 30 hours in-person (3 hours x 10 points of KNOTs) to complete with additional time for KNOT preparation and reflection.

Weighting

AATD: Hurdle task
LAWS: Hurdle task (up to 20%)

(Optional) Course Plan Milestone Check-in

See Course Pathway Plan for details on this task.

(Required) KNOT Completion Evidence

This task ties together the KNOTs that you have completed. Please include:

  • Your Course Pathway Plan (please update it if your original plan has been superceded)
  • A 250-500 word reflection that considers your journey through the course (see below)
  • A collation of the completion tasks (ie the evidence) from the KNOTs you have completed (see each KNOT’s completion task)

Guidance on the reflection

The reflection component is to look back on your journey and take an holistic view. This should not be an onerous task, more an opportunity to draw a thread through the course, and tie the knot (so to speak).

Your reflection can take any form, but you might find a prompt useful. Consider:

  • how your plan changed or developed over the course
  • serendipitous opportunities that you have either worked out or not worked out as you expected
  • ideas that you have collected throughout the course
  • KNOTs that you would like to see included, or that you wish you could create
  • how you might take your learning in SoCIETIE further
  • advice that you would give a future student

Reflection is a fantastic activity to promote learning - it is an opportunity for you to think about your thinking /after/ thinking. Kolb’s famous experiential learning cycle shows that when learning you need to go through four distinct stages: Abstract conceptualisation (Thinking), Active experimentation (Doing), Concrete experience (Feeling), Reflective observation (Watching). This is a chance to go through this cycle throughout the course as you develop ideas for your portfolio and about Complexity

Marking Criteria

  • AATD: Not yet complete, Complete with Revision, Complete without Revision
  • LAWS: LAWS students may submit elements of the Evidence of KNOT completion for graded assessment as part of the Learning Portfolio for a maximum weighting of 20%. See the Class Grading Structure for details on marking criteria.
