Being (Skills) KNOTs
Being KNOTs generally explore:
- practical approaches that can be applied to complex social, technical, environmental, political (et cetera) problems
- employing practical frameworks of knowing, being and understanding the world
- undertaking and developing approaches and methods across disciplines
Although Being KNOTs can be delivered in any format, these are likely to be delivered in workshop, masterclass, practical, fiedwork and other formats that develop and hone skills.
Learning Outcome
All Being KNOTs build capacity and map to the course learning outcome:
assess relationships and contextual dynamics to influence change across fields, disciplines and/or knowledge systems
SoCIETIE Being KNOTs
The McCusker Institute will run a number of Being KNOTs through semester in a Workshop format, bringing in Fellows, Affiliates and Guests to develop skills in a transdisciplinary environment. If you have a great idea for a workshop topic or guest, please raise it in class.
Campus Being KNOTs
A number of specific Campus Being KNOTs will be developed as we build the program with friends, partners and opportunistic offerings across campus.
In the meantime, the following format can used to build a Campus KNOT:
- at least three hours spent attending student workshops or practical sessions that involve recognised thought leaders on ANU campus
- the time may be acculumated at one event, or spread over several events, during the time you are enrolled in the course
- the topic must relate to SoCIETIE values
The default completion task for a Campus Being KNOT is a 200-word reflection. We encourage you to reflect on the skill that you developed through the workshop, alongside any activity/output/photo from the workshop.
The maximum number of Campus Being KNOTs you can undertake per course is 2 points (i.e. 2 x 3 hours).
Great places to find events for Campus Being KNOTs is the weekly On Campus newsletter.
If you follow the advice above, you do not need to get approval to have the KNOT count towards the course; however, you are welcome to check if you are unsure. As Campus Being KNOTs are established, they will be added to our KNOTs calendar.
Propose a Being KNOT
You may propose your own Being KNOT using the same format, expectations and completion task as outlined under Campus Being KNOTs, but with an external or community workshop. For example, attendance at a public workshop or completion of a certificate off campus.
Please seek approval for a Proposed Being KNOT prior to attending the event.
