Project poster
Your poster prints at 8 by 16 inches: a picture of your project across the top, the title, about 150 words on what you did, your partner’s logo, and a line about you. First time here? Start with the Instructions tab.

Your words
0 words in the description — aim for about 150.
Hand it in
This saves your poster as a PDF, then opens the submission form. Sign in with your ANU account and attach the PDF — signing in is what puts your name on it, and it goes to the SoCIETIE team.
Your work is kept in this browser as you type, so you can close the tab and come back. To carry on somewhere else, save the PDF and open it there. Nothing leaves this computer until you save a file or press submit.
Everything on the sheet is edited in place: click any line and type over it, and use the buttons that appear on the sheet to add the pictures. The panel beside the sheet is for the colour, the view, and handing it in.
Build it
- Add a picture of your project. Click the big frame at the top, or drop a picture on it. Drag it inside the frame to choose what is in shot, and scroll to zoom.
- Write the title and the 150 words. The grey text in each box is the brief; type over it. Both shrink to fit, and the panel tells you when there is more than the sheet will hold.
- Add your partner’s logo, if they have one. A logo on a white background is fine — that strip of the poster is white too. With no logo, your partner’s name goes there instead.
- Add your photo, your name, who you worked with, and what you took from it.
- Pick an accent colour. It colours the rule under the title and tints the band with your name.
Pictures
The big picture at the top prints 8 inches wide, so it is the one that has to be good.
- Your own photo is best: you at work, the thing you made, the place, the people you worked with. Landscape (wider than tall) fills the frame best.
- Ask before you use a photo of someone. If people are recognisable in it, check they are happy to be on a poster on a wall.
- No photo of your own? Unsplash has free photos you can use without asking. Search for your
topic, download the one you want, and put the photographer’s name in
Jane Smith / Unsplash. - Anything else needs permission. A picture from a search engine, a news site or someone’s social media belongs to whoever took it. Use one only if the owner has said you can, or its licence allows it (a Creative Commons licence, for example), and credit it.
- Took it yourself? Leave Picture credit blank.
Your partner’s logo is best as a PNG with a see-through background; ask your partner for one. Your own photo goes in the circle, so a head and shoulders shot works best.
Any size of picture is fine. The page shrinks large pictures as you add them (the big picture to about 1 MB, the others to about half that), which keeps your poster file small enough to hand in. If a picture will not open, it may be in a phone format like HEIC; save it as a JPEG or PNG and try again.
Hand it in
- Press Submit my poster. It saves your poster as a PDF and opens the submission form. The PDF is the poster we print, and it also opens back up on this page if you, or we, need to change it.
- Sign in with your ANU account. That is what puts your name on the submission.
- Attach the PDF, say whether it is a draft or your final version, and submit. You can come back and submit again: send a draft now and the final later.
If the form will not take the PDF because it is too large, set Resolution to Draft, 150 dpi, save again and attach the smaller file.
Good to know
- Your work is kept in this browser as you go, so you can close the tab and come back to it — on the same computer and browser. Nothing leaves your computer until you save a file or press Submit my poster.
- To carry on somewhere else, Save PDF, then Open a saved poster on the other computer and choose that PDF. The poster comes back exactly as it was. Open the PDF as this page saved it: one opened and saved again in another program can lose what this page needs to reopen it.
- Start again clears everything. Save the PDF first if you might want it back.
