Overview
The SoCIETIE Initiative approaches assessment as a process to develop your thinking and skills to create a positive influence in society, not your ability to match a “right answer”. This matches real-world complex problems, which have many valid approaches and solutions, requiring you to:
- Integrate multiple perspectives
- Make thoughtful decisions with incomplete information
- Reflect on your assumptions
- Learn from experience
- Adapt as you go
This course has been designed for you to develop these skills.
Assessment Tasks
How the assessment comes together depends on how you’re planning your journey. There are slight differences for each course code, and for Semester vs Session enrolment, and whether you’re following the Skills-Focus or Project-Focus pathway.
The assessment milestones for AATD Semester-based students are:

How You’re Graded
During the course, you will get qualitative feedback (Satisfactory, Good, Superior, Exceptional).
At the end of AATD, your overall grade will be determined as “Course Requirements Satisfied” (we expect the work to be of a Distinction level or above). CRS grades do not count toward your GPA, but do appear on your academic transcript and contributes to your total unit requirements.
What if submissions don’t meet expectations?
- You’ll get specific feedback
- You can revise and resubmit
- This is normal and expected
