Course Pathways

There is a balance between the time that you spend on building skills through KNoTs (classes), undertaking your project, and building your Shareable Artefact, which is a shareable output from your learning journey.

Choose the pathway that you would like to take:

Skills Pathway

The Skills Pathway prepares for a wide range of future challenges by undertaking a variety of KNoTs. This is the right pathway for you if you are:

  • creating a foundation for skills
  • developing a project that you or others might progress in the future

Students in the Skills Pathway often undertake a Living Lab project that is organised during semester.

SEMESTER

Good to know

The program of KNoTs generally runs over semester, so this pathway is best taken during semester. Students during Autumn or Spring session can usually complete this pathway by attending KNoTs during the overlapping semester. Students complete at least 10 KNoTs, with a maximum of 2 Campus KNoTs. We suggest students aim to complete at least 2 additional KNoTs over the semester - sometimes things go wrong and it’s OK to plan to exceed the requirements.

Project Pathway

The Project Pathway focusses on applying your skills to a specific project, supported by a series of KNoTs. This is the right pathway for you if you are:

  • working on a specific project that requires deep focus
  • aiming to create a tangible impact through your project
  • advocating for change through your project work

Students in the Project Pathway often have a project at the start of the course. You can explore the current Projects on offer, or bring your own.

SEMESTER or SESSIONS

Good to know

Students on the Project Pathway generally have a project in mind when they start the course. The Project Pathway can be taken over any Semester or Session. Students complete at least 5 KNoTs, with a maximum of 1 Campus KNoT. We suggest students aim to complete at least 2 additional KNoTs during the course - sometimes things go wrong and it’s OK to plan to exceed the requirements.

Flexible Pathway

If you have specific learning goals that don’t fit neatly into the Skills-Focus or Project-Focus pathways, you can design a Flexible Pathway. This allows you to tailor your KNoT selections and project hours to best suit your aspirations.

Use the explorer below to discover the relationship between the number of KNoTs and project hours. Drag the slider to see how your choices affect your learning balance:

Project Focus ← Balance → Skills Focus
3 KNoTs 12 KNoTs
60hr+
PROJECT
8+

Your Pathway:
Balanced Approach
You are balancing breadth and depth—ideal for building skills while working on a substantial project.
8 KNoTs includes a maximum of 2 Campus KNoTs

When designing your Flexible Pathway, consider how the KNoTs and project hours contribute to your overall learning objectives. Ensure that your selections provide a coherent learning experience that aligns with your goals.
