Menstrual Equity on Campus

This is a project that was started by a student group in Semester 1 2026. You will have access to the resources that they have already developed.

Access to period products is a basic matter of dignity, health and equal participation in university life. When students can't reliably find free products on campus, it can quietly get in the way of attending classes, sitting assessments or simply feeling supported. At ANU, provision exists but is often uneven — available in some buildings but not others, hard to locate, or dependent on ad hoc arrangements rather than a consistent, campus-wide system.

This Living Lab invites a student team to treat the campus as a real-world testbed for menstrual equity. Working alongside College and Facilities partners, you'll audit what provision currently exists, map where the gaps are, and learn from the distributed, dignity-based models rolled out at universities like UTS, Monash and UNSW. You'll then design and advocate for a practical implementation proposal — covering bathroom-based dispensers, an accessible locations map, a reasonable range of products, and integration into existing restocking systems.

Grounded in ANU's own equity and wellbeing commitments and evidence from comparable programs, you'll deliver a concrete, well-argued case for change that helps make free, dignified access a genuine campus-wide reality.
