Knowing/Doing TD Interactive SoCIETIE KNOT Project

Summary

Collaboration is a core part of creating meaningful and long-term change. In this project, you will be able to practice these skills by proposing a practical solution to one of the problems posed by our invited partners.

Preparation

The Collaborative Project KNoT will be delivered in three phases:

  • Problem Pitches - a variety of partners will share the real-world problems that they are navigating.
  • Collaborative Project time - groups will be formed and there will be independent time as a group to develop a solution
  • Ideas Pitches - a session where you report back your ideas to the partners

Students can account for 1pt for every 10hrs spent on the project.

What participants will learn

You will learn

  • about real-world challenges that others are trying to navigate
  • how to collaborate across difference as part of a small team
  • to develop and test ideas quickly in a limited time

Advice

Students undertaking the Project would benefit by attending KNoTs during the project start-finish, many of which have been timetabled to enhance your projects.

If you have never worked in a group before, there are many great resources out there on how to professionally interact in a collaborative team. Teams may like to set up meeting times and collaboration platforms at the start of their project.

The project time can be calculated as:

  • 3 hours for Partner Pitches (start)
  • 14 hours of Collaboration in your group
  • 3 hours for Ideas Pitches back to Partners (finish)
  • = 20 hours or 2 points.
Teams may undertake additional time/research to increase the points allocation. You may also extend your ideas after the pitches by continuing the project at the mutual agreement of the partners.

Completion

The completion activity will supplement the pitches back to the partners.

In your group, prepare a 1-page brief of your idea, and 3-minute summary/pitch that you can deliver back to the partner.

Individually, write a brief reflection on the Collaborative Project and attach the 1-page brief for your Completion Evidence. Outline what elements you brought to the project, and reflect on what challenges you had working in a transdisciplinary team.
