Please note - SoCIETIE students will start this session in the regular classroom for a pre-discussion, and then head to the event together as a group

Be a part of this important dialogue on ‘Shared Prosperity: the economy we have, the one we need and what we can do to make it better’ hosted by the McCusker Institute, in collaboration with The Next Economy.

Australia has great economic wealth, yet the benefits are not shared by all and the way it is created is damaging the natural environment that we all depend upon. Hear from Dr Katherine Trebeck, Economic Change Program Director at The Next Economy, alongside a distinguished panel of experts for a thought-provoking exploration on how we arrived at this juncture and the decisions and agendas that gave rise to the economic system of today. Together, we will consider the barriers, obstructions and emerging practices—both locally and globally— to inform a practical discussion on how we can make wellbeing, compassion, and inclusive economic thinking central to policy, practice, and everyday life.

Whether you're a policymaker, program implementor, community leader, business innovator, academic, student or concerned citizen, we invite you to imagine what comes next and to work together in reshaping our economy to serve all people and the planet we share.

1:30-2:30pm - Pre-panel discussion with Katherine Trebeck (Learning & Teaching Building)
2:30-3:30pm - Question prep, and walk across to the Cultural Centre as a group
3.30-4.30pm - Panel discussion followed by Q&A
4.30-5.00pm - Networking and ideas exchange over refreshments

The McCusker Institute Thought-Leaders Exchange brings visionary community leaders into the heart of the university, sparking dynamic conversations with students and staff. Together, we challenge assumptions, uncover barriers, and open new pathways for more inclusive and innovative thinking.
