Every Drop Counts

Students in Semester 1 2026 worked on this project as part of the SoCIETIE Initiative - will you pick up the challenge and take it further?

ANU's residential halls are close-knit communities with a strong sense of rivalry and pride — and that energy can be channelled for good. The Every Drop Counts blood and plasma drive already taps into it, with halls competing to sign up donors through Red Cross Lifeblood, but it's a challenge to get the donations!

This Living Lab invites a student team to consider how to develop effective campaigns that grows participation even further. Treating testbed for behaviour change, you'll explore what actually motivates students to take part — friendly rivalry, social norms, convenience or recognition.
Working alongside residential communities, you'll pilot your ideas across a donation season, measure their impact on donor participants, and capture what works. The result is a repeatable, evidence-based model for using healthy inter-hall competition to drive a genuinely life-saving cause — and one community challenges on campus.
