ANU Rocketry

ANU Rocketry is the Australian National University’s student-led rocketry team. We bring together students from engineering, computer science, physics, business, law, arts and other disciplines to design, manufacture, test and launch high-powered rockets and supporting systems.

Members gain practical experience across areas including propulsion, aerostructures, avionics, recovery, payload, dynamics & control, operations, media, partnerships and project management. The team competes in the Australian Universities Rocket Competition biennially and undertakes year-round technical development, testing, outreach and organisational projects.

Our goal is to provide an inclusive environment where students can apply their studies to ambitious real-world projects, learn from one another and build lasting technical and professional capability.

Students may undertake technical or organisational projects that contribute to ANU Rocketry’s ongoing development. Potential projects include rocket and subsystem design, manufacturing, simulation, software development, testing, safety and operations, competition logistics, media and communications, sponsorship, team development, and the creation of training or handover resources.

Projects will be scoped in consultation with the student and relevant ANU Rocketry leadership so that they produce a useful outcome for the team while meeting the learning requirements of the SoCIETIE Initiative.

Students will generally need to apply for and join ANU Rocketry before beginning a project, as most projects require access to team systems, facilities, training and supervision. Participation may also be subject to relevant safety inductions and technical prerequisites.

ANU Rocketry does not currently offer designated workshops for Campus/Partner KNoT recognition. Where there is sufficient interest, specific KNoTs may be developed for ANU Rocketry participants in consultation with the McCusker Institute.
