Course Pathways

There is a balance between the time that you spend on Knowing and Being KNoTs (classes), Doing KNoTs (your project), and your Shareable Artefact, which is a shareable output from your learning journey.

Standard Pathways

Most students choose to focus on either the Skills-Focus pathway, building a broad set of skills across multiple KNoTs or the Project-Focus pathway, going deep into a specific project to put your skills into action. Choose the pathway that best suits your goals.

Students taking the Skills-Focus pathway might be:

  • preparing for a wide range of future challenges
  • developing a project that they want to pursue in the future
  • creating a foundation for skills that can be applied in the future

Students taking the Project-Focus pathway might be:

  • working on a specific project that requires deep focus
  • aiming to create a tangible impact through their project
  • advocating for change through their project work

Students looking to balance Skills and Project focus can also create a Custom Pathway by discussing their goals with the course convenor.

COUNTING YOUR KNOTS

We recommend planning to do two additional KNoTs beyond the minimum requirements to allow for any changes in your interests or availability.

Custom Pathway

If you have specific learning goals that don’t fit neatly into the Skills-Focus or Project-Focus pathways, you can design a Custom Pathway. This allows you to tailor your KNoT selections and project hours to best suit your aspirations.

As a guide, the requirements for a Custom Pathway should include:

Knowing and Being KNoTs Doing KNoTs (Project Hours) Notes
Minimum of 10 KNoTs Minimum of 20 hours equiv. to Skills Focus
8-9 KNoTs 30-40 hours Skills emphasis
6-8 KNoTs 40-60 hours Balanced approach
5-6 KNoTs 60-80 hours Project emphasis
Minimum of 4 KNoTs Minimum of 80 hours equiv. to Project Focus

When designing your Custom Pathway, consider how each KNoT and project hour contributes to your overall learning objectives. Ensure that your selections provide a coherent learning experience that aligns with your goals.
