Carbon Smart Events Toolkit - Translating the Guide for Residential Halls

The ANU Carbon Smart Events Guide provides a framework for lower-impact event planning, but it was designed for centrally organised university events rather than the student-run dinners, cultural nights and parties that make up residential hall life. There's an opportunity to translate it into a practical, hall-specific toolkit that meets student organisers where they are.

The student or team will review the existing guide, research how other universities package sustainable-event resources for students, and consult with hall committees and event organisers to understand how events are actually planned and run. From there, the team will co-design a toolkit tailored to hall contexts, such as think checklists, quick-win swaps, and decision prompts that fit into existing planning workflows.

Grounded in engagement with hall communities and benchmarked against comparable university programs, the team will deliver a hall-ready Carbon-Smart Events toolkit with practical guidance for rollout across ANU residences.
