Carbon Smart Events Incentive Program - Recognising Lower-Impact Events in Residential Halls

ANU event organisers already juggle budgets, bookings and promotion, and sustainability can feel like one more thing on the list. An incentive program that recognises effort and makes progress visible could shift that, giving organisers a reason to reach for the Carbon Smart Events Guide and a way to see where their event lands.

The student or team will research incentive and recognition models used in comparable settings, such as star ratings, badge systems, tiered certification, and consult with event organisers to understand what would actually motivate behaviour change. The work might explore a bronze-silver-gold framework where events earn a rating based on measurable criteria, or a peer-recognition model, or something else entirely shaped by what resonates with the ANU community.

The team will deliver a practical incentive model with clear criteria, an implementation pathway, and recommendations for how it connects to the Carbon Smart Events Guide and broader University culture.
