Insights from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ways of Knowing, Being and Doing

This workshop introduces a selection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander approaches to learning, showing how Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing - when engaged with from a place of celebration and respect- can complement university study across any discipline and lead to new ways of connecting with each other, Country and history.

Consider your project, or a text, theory, or knowledge core to your discipline. During the session we may use this as a context to explore, and it will be a point of reference for your Completion Activity.

The workshop will offer practical examples of how observation, storytelling, hands-on practice, and reflection—core elements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems—can enrich your learning journey in the classroom and beyond.

Prior to coming to the session, consider your own family's history over as many generations as you can. Alternatively, consider what your descendants might say about your generation in the future.

Reflect on your insights on Indigenous ways of knowing with respect to your project, text, theory or knowledge. Generate an appropriate response, which may be a written or spoken piece, artwork or other creative piece (circa 200 words, 2 minutes or 1 page, etc)
